A cultural and entertainment center, and a national and international knowledge and training center
The Nalaga’at Center is a place for deaf people, blind people, deaf-blind people, and the seeing and hearing public to meet and conduct an artistic, experiential, cultural and egalitarian dialogue by means of its theatre, café, restaurant, workshops, and training programs.
The Nalaga’at Center develops specialized employment frameworks to help deaf, blind, and deaf-blind people work, develop and earn a living like any other person, achieve self-fulfillment, and nurture their unique abilities and talents from a belief that all people are equal and all people are different, and every person has the right to assume responsibility for contributing to society.
The Center creates a work routine with regular activities for the general public, and earned income, while constantly seeking new forms of communication between the seeing and hearing, deaf, blind, and deaf-blind people who work there.
We strive for professionalism and excellence in all our endeavors and are engaged in developing a distinctive and innovative theatre language that enables self-expression for the deaf, blind, and deaf-blind actors in quality, professional productions.
In order to broaden the Center’s influence, we develop training programs, workshops, and study days founded on the values of Nalaga’at and adapted to different audiences in Israel and around the world.
Working at the Center are people of different nationalities, religions, and gender, and it provides equal opportunity for all to participate in its endeavors and heighten awareness to the population of deaf, blind, and deaf-blind people in Israel and the world. The Center will serve as a national and international model for the inclusion of people with disabilities in society.
The Nalaga’at Center enables the visiting public to connect with the difference and deficiency inherent in each and every one of us, and develops values of attentiveness, observation, and tolerance that lead to personal and social change and acceptance of the different from a position of power and strength.
We believe we should, can, and deserve to change the reality in which we live.
